Isle of Skye

Skye, short for Isle of Skye, is the biggest island in the Hebrides group of islands off the west coast of Scotland and northwest of Edinburgh.  It was at one time occupied by the Vikings from Norway.  It depends mostly on fishing, tourism, agriculture, and whisky-distilling for its economy.  Many of the estimated 10,000 people living on the island speak Gaelic.  The island used to be dominated by the Clan McCleod and Clan Donald.
From the ferry terminal, we drove about 30 minutes to the biggest town on the island called Portree.  It's your typical small tourism town with restaurants, hotels, bed-and-breakfasts (B&B), pubs, etc.  I stayed at a B&B called Foreland, just on the outskirt of town.  Unfortunately, during the evening that we were there it was cold and rainy.
The next day we drove around the island stopping at many places with spectacular scenery.  The island is sparsely populated with a small town here and there to provide local and tourist services.  Many of the roads can only accommodate 1 car at a time.  However, every short distance a so, there will be a pullout so one of the cars can stop and let the oncoming car pass.  We took the Skye Bridge back to the mainland and continue our journey towards Inverness.
