We left Limerick after breakfast on Thursday morning and drove about one-and-a-half hours south to Killarney, on the southwestern part of Ireland. This is a beautiful part of Ireland that includes the popular Ring of Kerry. We checked into the Dromhall Hotel, a beautiful modern hotel that is a far-cry from the one we stayed in Limerick. I won't go into details about the Boutique Hotel in Limerick except that it is no better than some of the hostels that I've stayed in. The room at the Dromhall Hotel is spacious and the bathroom is big and modern. It has free wifi in the lobby and wired internet in the room, wonderful to keep in touch with our friends and family in the US. It was fully staffed and we got good advice on a lot of information about the town and the area.
This is a special day for Candy. It's her birthday. First thing we did was take a horse-carriage ride around town and the Killarney National Park. It is a huge 11,000 acre park that does not allow any motor-vehicles. You can walk, run, ride your bike and walk your dogs. It has a lot of wildlife - deer, squirrels, foxes, and all kinds of birds. It is also rich in vegetation, including palm trees and bamboo. The land for the park was donated by the Shane family many years ago.
After the horse-carriage ride, we walked around the downtown area. This is obviously a popular tourist location. Its downtown area is full of tourist shops and restaurants. We ate at a restaurant called Bricin, which is located above a clothing store. Candy had a popular Irish dish called Boxty. It is potato pancake that is stuff with curry lamb or chicken cooked with onions and carrots.
