Our first stop today is the town of Zarcero, about an hour from San Jose. The highlight of this town is the church known as Iglesia San Rafael, a Moorish style church. It also has a beautiful sculpted garden.

Our next stop is the Sloth Park.
Sloths are slow-moving animals that live high up in trees. They are found in Central and some parts of South America. Their diet is mostly the leaves of the trees but they also eat fruits, lizards and insects. There are two-toe and three-toe sloths in Costa Rica. Our group is broken up into smaller groups of about 10. Each small group followed a guide who is trained to spot sloths high up in the trees. Without these guides it would be almost impossible to find the sloths.

Even after you spotted the sloth it is very difficult to see their entire body. They appear as a lump of fur. If they are eating something you can see the movements. Below are some images.
There are other animals in the Sloth Park.

Our final stop of the day is a 2-hour visit to a volcanic hot-spring called Los Lagos Hot Springs. As in many hot springs they have pools that have different water temperatures. The hot water came from a nearby volcano. This is a popular area for hot springs as we saw many lodges that have hot springs.

We finally checked into the beautiful Magic Mountain Hotel at the foothill of the Arenal Volcano in Fortuna. We are staying here only 1 night before traveling to the Nicoya Peninsula.
